Don Bosco High School and Junior College, Oro, observed the Punyatithi on 1st August 2026 of the legendary freedom fighter, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, with immense respect and patriotic zeal by the commemorate committee. It aimed to educate students about Tilak’s contribution to India’s freedom struggle and his philosophy of ‘Swaraj’. After the school prayer, the commemoration began by garlanding the photo frame of Tilak by the Principal Fr. Melvin Ferrao. In an inspiring speech delivered by Miss Veera Parulekar of Std IX, emphasized Tilak’s famous slogan ‘Swaraj is my birthright, and I shall have it’, encouraging students to emulate his courage, dedication and love for the nation in their academic and personal lives. A vibrant poster was made and uploaded by the committee on the WhatsApp group to pay their tribute to one of the prime architect of India’s freedom movement. An open quiz competition was held. The quiz tested the students knowledge on various aspects of Tilak’s life, including his journalistic work with newspapers like Kesari and Mahratta, celebration of Ganesh Festival etc. Prizes were given to the winners of quiz during the assembly. The day served as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by our national heroes.
