Oros, 15 August 2026: Don Bosco High School & Jr. College, Oros, celebrated Independence Day with great patriotic fervour and enthusiasm on 15th August 2026. The celebration commemorated the 79th year of India’s independence and aimed to remind students of the sacrifices of the freedom fighters and their responsibilities as citizens of the nation.
The programme began at 7:15 a.m. on the school grounds, where students and teachers assembled in full uniform. The Chief Guest, Shri Padmanabh Parab, was escorted to the flagpole through a grand March Past. The National Flag was then unfurled with due honour, followed by the National Anthem, Vande Mataram and Maharashtra Geet, accompanied by harmonium and tabla.
The celebrations continued in the basement hall with a colourful and meaningful cultural programme. A prayer dance and ceremonial lamp lighting marked the beginning of the indoor programme. Students delivered inspiring patriotic speeches in English and Hindi, highlighting the importance of patriotism and the responsibilities of today’s youth.
The major attraction of the programme was a historical skit on Shaheed Bhagat Singh. Continuing the story presented last year on the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, the skit portrayed significant events from Bhagat Singh’s life, including the protests against the Simon Commission, the Central Legislative Assembly bomb incident, the hunger strike for the rights of Indian prisoners and the supreme sacrifice of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev. The powerful performances brought the spirit of India’s freedom struggle alive before the audience.
Another noteworthy presentation was the Digital Detox Skit by the Class XII students. Through this thought-provoking performance, the students highlighted the growing problem of mobile-phone addiction and conveyed the message that freeing oneself from excessive dependence on technology is also a form of freedom in today’s digital age.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Shri Padmanabh Parab paid rich tribute to the freedom fighters, particularly Shaheed Bhagat Singh, and urged students to work hard and become responsible and good citizens. Principal Rev. Fr. Melwin Ferrao appreciated the efforts of all the participants and reminded the students that true freedom must be accompanied by responsibility, discipline and respect.
The celebration concluded with a Vote of Thanks and enthusiastic patriotic slogans echoing through the hall. The programme was a memorable tribute to the heroes of India’s freedom struggle and conveyed the important message that the freedom we enjoy today comes with the responsibility to build a better and stronger nation.
